The Kainai Board of Education (KBE) is located on a First Nation Reserve located in the southern part of Alberta. The KBE carries out the operations and functions for the delegation of education services from kindergarten to Grade 12 within the Kainai community. Having adopted Kainaysinni, the Declaration of the Elders of Kainai, the KBE is committed to excellence in education for the members of Kainai.

Cook = (2) Positions

  • 1 - F/T Seasonal Position until June 30, 2025, with possible extension.
  • 1 - Term Seasonal Position until February 2025
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Organize and set up equipment and workstations, demonstrate proper equipment operation skills.
  • Perform duties following health, food service, government, and other regulations.
  • Practice personal hygiene and proper sanitation procedures i.e., hand washing, standards of dress/attire and more.
  • Turn on, test, and monitor equipment at the beginning of the day, turn off and clean equipment at the end of each day.
  • Food preparation according to written and oral instructions based on a monthly menu.
  • Serve breakfast, lunch and a la carte items at designated school times, replenish food and maintain clean serving areas.
  • Always monitor food and equipment tempratures.
  • Exhibit courtsey and understanding to staff, students and visitors.
  • Perform dishwashing duties of cooking, serving and eating utensils tools, receive stock and rotate incoming and outgoing inventory.
  • Participate in formal and informal training, demonstrate knowledge of sanitation practices.
  • Exhibit the professional behavior of a reliable employee.
  • Perform preparation duties for the next day including cleaning and sanitization of kitchen.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and safe work environment.
  • Sign in and work according to a time schedule and sign out each day.
  • Perform other duties as designated by Supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma and/or Diploma in Culinary is required with experience.
  • General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving meats, breads, vegetables, and other foods on a large scale.
  • General knowledge of the use or care of food preparation equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of standardized and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment/
  • Ability to plan and organize workload.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, teachers, principals, and co-workers in a pleasant, courteous manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students, and school staff.
  • Able to maintain emotional control.
  • Ability to work with others in a close fast paced environment.
  • Ability to accurately count and record food items and inventory.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry 50 pounds and push/pull 35 pounds of force.
  • Ability to stand and work on hard surfaces fora a long period of time.
